Dear readers,
After a few weeks away from this blog, I’m returning with a renewed sense of clarity, purpose, and gratitude. Sometimes, taking a step back is not about giving up—but about gathering strength, insight, and perspective. That’s exactly what this short pause has been for me.
🌱 Why the Break?
Over the past month, I’ve taken some quiet time to reflect deeply on the direction of this platform and the mission that drives it. Supporting migrant families and exploring the complexities of the UK social care system is not just a subject I write about—it’s a lifelong commitment rooted in my career, values, and lived experience.
But like many who work in care or advocacy, it’s easy to carry the weight of these stories and systems without pausing to breathe. I’ve been tending to personal matters, reconnecting with community voices, and reflecting on how best to use this space to serve those who need it most.
🔄 What’s Changed?
This short break has reminded me that information alone isn’t enough. Migrant families navigating the UK system need:
- Clarity – simplified, compassionate guides they can trust
- Visibility – space to share their voices and stories
- Connection – to local support, legal help, and emotional safety
- Advocacy – thoughtful analysis of the policies shaping their daily lives
So going forward, this blog will not only share guidance—but also amplify stories, spotlight grassroots organisations, and offer practical tools families and allies can use on the ground.
✍️ What’s Coming Next?
Here’s a glimpse of what I’ll be sharing over the coming weeks:
- A detailed blog on “What Is NRPF and How Does It Affect Migrant Families?”
- Resources and guides for accessing help under Section 17 of the Children Act
- Insights into how social care professionals can better support migrant families
- Spotlights on community organisations doing life-changing work
- And, later this summer, a downloadable Migrant Family Survival Toolkit
💛 Thank You for Being Here
Whether you’re a fellow advocate, a social worker, a parent navigating an unfamiliar system, or simply someone who cares—you matter. Your presence on this blog matters. Your commitment to justice and understanding matters.
Thank you for your patience during this break, and for the warmth and encouragement many of you have shared. I’m honoured to walk alongside you as we continue this journey of learning, reflection, and care.
With purpose and hope,
Zabethjohn
